Province of Bohemia

The Province of Bohemia consists of five dioceses:
Prague archdiocese
The Diocese of Prague was established in 973 after the agreement between Prince Boleslav II, Emperor Otto I and the bishop of Regensburg, St. Wolfgang. On 30th April 1344, Pope Clement VI promoted the Prague dioceses to archdiocese and established the independent provinces of Bohemia and Moravia.
The area of the Prague archdiocese is 8,990 sq km with 2,062,000 inhabitants. Out of them only 370,000 are Roman-Catholic. The archdiocese is divided into 14 vicariates. The cathedral is dedicated to Ss. Vitus, Wenceslaus and Adalbert, patron saints of the diocese are Ss. Adalbert, Wenceslaus, and John of Nepomuk.

České Budějovice diocese
The Diocese of České Budějovice was founded by the bull issued by Pope Pius VI on 20th September 1785. The area of the diocese is 12,500 sq km and there live 743,000 inhabitants, out of the 237,000 are Roman-Catholics. The diocese is divided into 11 vicariates. The cathedral is dedicated to St. Nicholas, patron saints of the diocese are St. Nicholas and St. John of Nepomuk.

Hradec Králové diocese
The Diocese of Hradec Králové was founded by the bull of Pope Alexander VII on 10th November 1664. The area of the diocese is 12,270 sq km with 1,255,000 inhabitants. Out of them, only 307,000 are Roman-Catholic. The diocese is divided into 12 vicariates. The cathedral is dedicated to the Holy Spirit. Patron saints of the diocese are St. Clement and St. John of Nepomuk.

Litoměřice diocese
The Diocese of Litoměřice was founded by the bull of Pope Alexander VII on 3rd July 1665. The area of the diocese is 9,380 sq km and there live 1,330,000 inhabitants. Out of them, only 162,000 are Roman-Catholic. The diocese is divided into 10 vicariates. The cathedral is dedicated to St. Stephen, patron saints of the diocese are St. Zdislava, St. Felix, St. Victorin, and St. Stephen.

Plzeň diocese
The Diocese of Plzeň was founded by the bull of Pope John Paul II on 31st May 1993. The area of the diocese is 9,236 sq km and there live 795,000 inhabitants. It is the smallest diocese in the Czech Republic and it has only 142,000 Roman-Catholics. The diocese is divided into 10 vicariates. The cathedral is dedicated to St. Bartholomew, patron saint of the diocese is Blessed Hroznata.
